Portable Aerials can I use one:
Some but only a few households might be able to use a set top aerial, but reception would still be unreliable and so we strongly recommend that you use a wideband rooftop aerial for good reception.
If you do not have access to a rooftop aerial eg you live in a flat and the aerial is the responsibility of the landlord – a set top aerial may be your only option.
Why can’t I receive some/all FREEVIEW channels or my picture is breaking up and freezing?
It is extremely rare for a Set Top Box to be faulty, so that you can only receive some channels. The likely causes are:
- Freeview does not cover your area, please check: http://www.freeview.co.uk/availability
- The local transmitter is on a reduced signal (work being carried out on the transmitter causes this), see attached link for further information: www.bbc.co.uk/reception
- Your aerial needs upgrading (ideally it should be a digital wideband type of less than 6 years old outside on your roof). See attached link for aerial installers in your area:

Why is my remote control not working?
Make sure you are pointing the remote control at the unit’s sensor.
Make sure that you are within the operating range of the remote control.
Make sure that there are no obstructions between the remote control and the unit.
Why is there no sound from my TV?
Is the volume set too low?
If there is a mute feature has this been activated?
Are earphones/headphones plugged in?
If the TV can receive different analogue sound/colour signal systems, make sure that PAL I has been selected.
Check that GB has been selected next to ATSS and SYSTEM in the install menu?
I am unable to tune in my Product?
Have you read the instruction manual and the quick start guide?
Have you checked your aerial?
The unit is switched on but nothing happens when I press the controls?
If the unit is a portable device with a HOLD switch, make sure that this is set to OFF.
The problem could be due to static electrical discharge. Press the reset button if the unit has one.
If the unit is mains powered, switch off and back on again.
Is the unit is child-lock mode?
Why is there not a picture on my TV?
Make sure that the aerial is connected properly and has not been damaged.
If the TV has auxiliary AV inputs make sure that the correct source has been selected.
Why is there not a picture on my TV when I play a DVD?
Make sure that the DVD player is not connected properly.
Make sure that the relevant auxiliary (AV) input has been selected.
If the DVD player can support progressive scan make sure that it is switched to “interlace” mode.
Why is the picture on my TV distorted when I play a video cassette tape?
Make sure that the VCR is connected to the TV properly.
Some TV’s have a VCR mode feature. If this is the case set the VCR mode to ON.
Why is there no colour on my TV picture?
Make sure that the programme is broadcast in colour.
Try adjusting the colour setting on the TV with the remote control.
Try fine tuning the station.
Make sure that the correct colour/sound signal system has been selected. PAL/I is used in the UK.
The TV is dead.
The fuse in the plug must be checked.
What does “check cable or signal” on my TV mean?
Your TV can be used as a PC monitor. The PC monitor source has been selected, but there is no signal from the PC. Check that the monitor cable from your PC is properly connected to the TV.
Make sure that the PC is switched on.
Why does the screen go blank while using the TV as a PC monitor?
The monitor is using its power management system. Move the PC’s mouse or press any key on the keyboard.
Why do I get horizontal/vertical bars when using the TV as a PC monitor?
The clock/phase functions need to be adjusted.
Try the auto adjust first to see if this resolves the problem.
If not, try adjusting the phase then the clock manually.

Where can I get remote control codes to operate the TV with my Sky remote control?
These codes are generated by the manufacturer of the Sky remote control from BINARY CODES initially supplied by the manufacturer of the set. You will need to telephone Sky Codes on 0870 243 5000.
